There are different frameworks like the PhoneGap and React Native, which make it easy for retail businesses to develop and distribute mobile apps for consumers as well as internal teams. A standard tool in retail warehouses these days is radio-frequency identification reader. Workers in the fulfillment and logistics teams daily use these to take stock of the inbound freight and inventory. They even use it for order picking. A mid-level brick-and-click retailer based in the Northwestern United States had to replace around half-dozen RFID readers. The new equipment would have cost them over $20,000. Instead of doing this, they deployed a mobile application that uses Adobe PhoneGap and a few Apple iPods fitted with radio frequency attachments that just cost a couple of hundreds of dollars each. Well, this did bring down the cost of the project rather significantly.

Native Language

The first model to develop a mobile application is the usual way: write an application in native language from scratch, for an iOS device it must be in Swift or Objective-C. This approach is cost-effective, and the framework it provides is quite good for a platform. However, this model does have a couple of challenges. If you want to develop a mobile app in the native language of a platform, you need a couple of development specialists.

For iOS, you will need a Swift developer, for Windows Mobile you need a C++ developer, and for Android, you need a JavaScript developer. The next problem is that if you want the application to work on different platforms and make an error-free mobile app, you have to write the script twice. The third drawback is that the native languages model can be slightly expensive. You must pay various developers to write the same app in different languages.

Use a Hybrid

PhoneGap uses the hybrid approach. A mobile app that uses PhoneGap is a web browser in essence. The developer has to write the application using HTML, CSS, or JavaScript that is encoded in the native web browser for different platforms.

PhoneGap has access to native features like camera and GPS. This approach is straightforward and doesn’t take much time to develop. However, when you compare its performance or features to an app in the native language, it isn’t that effective.
